Start a Carbon Tax in New York State
We need a carbon tax in New York state. Carbon taxes are a fair, effective solution to climate change. They raise money for renewable energy and other expensive projects. New York has always been the place to make new ideas, to start huge movements. We need to send a signal to the rest of the country: the Earth cannot be saved without every single person doing their part. Carbon taxes are New York's way of saving the planet, and every other state can follow in our footsteps.
Why is this important?
As President Obama said, "We will respond to the threat of climate change, knowing that the failure to do so would betray our children and future generations". Being only eleven years old, climate is not just upsetting, it is scary. Rising sea levels, devastating storms, severe droughts, these are all caused by climate. It is our duty to protect humanity and we cannot sit by and do nothing knowing that not one child on this planet will have a safe and healthy future if we do not make drastic moves to stop climate change.
Carbon taxes work, and right now, we have no time to think about every possible downside. Something must be done, because this planet is being destroyed, and we refuse give up. Every day, I think about my future. I will do everything within my power to save humanity, but we can't do it alone. The fact that most adults will not be around for the true apocalypse does not matter.
No matter what world leaders do, we won't give up. Every politician in the world could sit at their desk all day and ignore us, but we won't give up. There is no other option for humanity other than fighting and staying strong. We can do it, but we need all the help we can get.
